Traffic Safety
To Parents: February 12, 2009
This is to address with you our on-going problems regarding school morning arrivals and afternoon departures. Constant safety awareness is required by all to keep our school grounds and our students as safe as possible during arrivals and departures. Please review the following rules:
All vehicles entering the school must merge into one lane when approaching the front of the school.
No vehicles are permitted to enter the exit lane during morning or afternoon arrival times.
All vehicles must continue in line and remain in line during arrival and dismissal.
No vehicles are permitted to park on the grass areas alongside the drive or on the grass median between the trees at the front entrance of the drive. This is destroying the grass and mulch areas between the trees.
No students are allowed to be dropped off or picked up from the rear of the school building for any reason. This lane is for bus arrival and departure only. Only students riding the bus will be allowed at the back of the school. No car traffic is allowed except for teachers.
Parents who choose to park off school property in non-designated areas for arrival or dismissal must physically walk to the front of the school to meet their child.
I have asked that a police officer patrol this area during arrival and dismissal times and any violations will be ticketed to vehicles who do not obey these traffic safety rules.
I am also aware of the frustration and difficulty some of you are experiencing when checking your student out for an early dismissal appointment at the end of the school day. I strongly suggest you arrive prior to 3:15 so you will not be delayed in our dismissal lanes. You should enter and park on the front side of the building in the designated parking slots so you may exit as needed. When you arrive later than 3:15, you risk being blocked by vehicles waiting in line for dismissal at 3:30.
At the beginning of school, all students received our school traffic safety rules to review and return signed by a parent. Parents, please follow these traffic safety guidelines to ensure we have no accidents and to maintain a safe environment for our students when entering and departing our school. Your cooperation and adherence is necessary and important.

Grading
Sumner County Board of Education Policies – Grading
Grading of student work is determined by the teacher who assigns such work. The grade is not place on work until the teacher is sure that the measurement of the work is accurate. The grade shall not be changed unless a student can prove an error or provide information that would give the teacher reason to change the grade. If a teacher suspects a student of cheating to earn a grade, then that teacher shall consider an alternative test measure. Unless the teacher has absolute proof of cheating, the student shall be given the benefit of an alternative test. When a teacher has proof of cheating by a student, the matter shall be turned over to the principal.
Makeup Work
Sumner County Board of Education Policies – Make-up Work
A student must be given the opportunity to make up work for excused absences. The due dates for this work shall be at the discretion of the principal after receiving input from the student’s teachers. To keep a student from getting behind in class, in most cases, missed work can be requested on the morning of a student’s absence by calling the school’s office. The student’s assignments can be picked up in the office the afternoon of the missed day. Make-up work for pre-arranged extended absences is to be available after the missed time period, unless otherwise indicated from the teacher and/or principal.
Attendance
Sumner County Board of Education Policies – Attendance
School begins at 8:30 a.m. Any child who is unable to attend school needs a written note from a parent, guardian, or doctor. After five excused absences, the parent or guardian must file more formal documentation with the principal to assure classification as an excused absence. Adequate reasons for absence include the following: student’s illness, death in the family, special recognized religious holidays, required court appearances, school related activities, and vacations with prior approval from the principal.
